Christoph Plate is the designated Director of the Media Programme South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, based in Sofia Bulgaria. From 2027 until June 2023 he was Head of the Media Programme for Subsahara Africa, based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In the 1990s he worked as a contributing Africa Correspondent for the German news magazine Der Spiegel, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Thereafter he covered the Middle East for ten years as editor and reporter for the Sunday edition of Neue Zuercher Zeitung in Switzerland.
Before joining the Foundation, Plate was the Deputy Editor-in-chief of Schwaebische Zeitung, a big regional newspaper in South-western Germany.
The Media Programme brings together stakeholders in the media industry on issues such as the credibility crisis or business models, and the role of local media and Public Service Broadcasters.
