Cormac Liam Smith
The UK Local Government Communications – National Chairman
Cormac Smith has over 20 years of experience in public relations. During the 1990’s he worked in medical education and health care communications before moving over to the public sector in 2000. In 2001, he joined Westminster City Council where he went on to play a leading role in the development of the organisations award winning agency which provides communications services and strategic advice to public sector organisations across the UK.
Over the last decade, Cormac has held senior communications roles with the London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames, Sutton and Harrow. He has particular interest in crisis communications and has successfully steered clients through challenging issues including Child Sexual Exploitation recently, and two years ago the high profile clearance of Europe’s largest illegal traveller settlement in Basildon.
Cormac is currently working with Basildon Borough Council and Peterborough City Council and is national chairman of LGcommunications, the professional body that represents council communications teams.
Cormac also works closely with the United Kingdom’s Cabinet Office, where along with colleagues in local and central government he aims to bring the profession in the two sectors closer together.
