Zlatko Komadina was born in 1958 in Ljubljana. He grew up and was educated in Rijeka, and currently lives in Opatija. In 1982, he graduated from the Technical Faculty of the University of Rijeka. After graduation, he was employed at the Shipyard “3. maj”, and then in the company “Instalater d.d.” in various managerial positions. He is the founder and director of his own company for engineering and consulting in construction, and was also the director of KD “Energo”. Since 2001, he has been elected six times as the prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. He is the founder and first president of the Croatian Union of Counties, and held the positions of alderman in the Municipality of Rijeka, councilor in the City Council of Rijeka, chairman of the Supervisory Board of KD Čistoć, councilor in the County Assembly of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, representative in the County House of the Croatian Parliament, member of the Economy Committee and finance, member of the Committee for Internal Policy and Local Self-Government, President of the Committee for the Development of Local Self-Government, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, and Member of the Croatian Parliament. In the SDP, he held the positions of vice-president of the Main Board of the SDP of Croatia, president of the SDP of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and temporary president of the SDP of Croatia. In his spare time, he also enjoys fishing. Italian President Carlo Azegli Ciampi awarded him the Order of the Star of Solidarity and the honorary title of Commendatore.
